Advance UNESCO’s 2001 Convention on underwater cultural heritage through scientific advice, multilateral project coordination and climate-resilience work. The consultant will support regional initiatives, research, policy documents, fundraising, stakeholder consultations and major meetings from a home-based arrangement.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Serve as scientific focal point and underwater archaeology expert for the 2001 Convention
- Coordinate implementation activities in South and East Asia with UNESCO field offices
- Develop a Baltic Sea cooperation project covering research protection education capacity building and communications
- Integrate underwater and coastal heritage into climate action resilience strategies and ocean policy
- Support meetings conferences anniversary events and statutory-body sessions
Role Requirements
- Hold an advanced university degree in a culture-related discipline
- Have at least ten years of professional experience in culture including five years in international cultural policy
- Demonstrate expertise in underwater archaeology and protection of underwater cultural heritage
- Demonstrate excellent English and French across speaking reading and writing
- Show experience coordinating global consultations multilateral projects and diverse stakeholders
Desired Criteria
- United Nations system experience
- Experience organising global multi-stakeholder consultations
- Expert knowledge of UNESCO culture programmes
- Knowledge of another official UN language
