Job Description

Supports UNCTAD’s Trade, Environment, Climate Change and Sustainable Development Branch on circular economy and trade. The intern will research scientific and policy evidence, analyse trade and environmental data, assess materials and value chains, prepare accessible briefings, help deliver events and contribute technical-cooperation, capacity-building and resource-mobilisation inputs.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Research and summarise scientific, technical and policy evidence on circular economy and trade
  • Compile, clean and analyse trade, non-tariff, materials and environmental data using Python or R
  • Analyse materials, chemicals and plastics in traded products and circular value chains
  • Prepare briefing notes, presentations and interventions for non-specialist audiences
  • Support circular-economy events, briefings, training and stakeholder follow-up
  • Contribute evidence and materials for technical-cooperation proposals, reports and resource mobilisation

Role Requirements

  • Graduate study or final-year bachelor-level study, or a completed graduate or bachelor-level degree
  • Degree in environmental science, chemistry, materials science, chemical or environmental engineering, industrial ecology or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience using Python or R for scientific data handling and environmental modelling
  • Ability to read and summarise scientific and technical literature
  • Fluency in written and spoken English

Desired Criteria

  • Knowledge of French, Spanish or Chinese
