Job Description

The World Bank seeks an extended-term consultant in Washington, D.C. to support spatial analysis and climate-resilience work for its Distributional Impact of Policies unit. The consultant will assist country teams with poverty and welfare analysis, geocode household surveys, develop poverty maps and maintain analytical tools and dashboards that integrate climate, geospatial and household data.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Support country teams with distributional analysis and poverty and welfare impact assessments
  • Geocode household surveys using the H3 spatial indexing system
  • Construct poverty maps integrating spatial variables
  • Maintain and improve the WISE-APP analytical engine and user interface
  • Develop tools and dashboards for spatial analysis and climate resilience
  • Deliver training on analytical methods, tools and geospatial skills

Role Requirements

  • Master’s degree in economics, data science, statistics, geography or a related field
  • At least five years of experience applying economic data and analytical tools
  • Strong R or Python programming skills including data manipulation, statistical analysis and visualisation
  • Familiarity with geospatial analysis, GIS tools and geospatial indexing systems
  • Fluent written and oral English

Desired Criteria

  • PhD in economics, data science, statistics, geography or a related field
  • Experience contributing to interactive web applications such as R Shiny or Streamlit
  • Experience with version-control systems
