Job Description

ECLAC seeks a local G-7 Senior Research Assistant in Santiago to support its Population Division. The assistant will collect and analyse population data, build and maintain research databases, prepare quantitative materials, support project monitoring and meetings, draft technical reports and communications, process sociodemographic information, and provide data and knowledge-management support.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Identify and monitor substantive work of the unit in countries
  • Select documents, collect and analyse data and prepare background materials for studies and reports
  • Prepare charts, graphs and outputs for data reporting and presentation
  • Build data sets and design and update databases for research needs
  • Coordinate project monitoring and implementation
  • Organize meetings and workshops and prepare agendas and notes
  • Draft and edit technical texts and reports

Role Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least ten years of data collection and research experience in social and economic development, reduced to eight years for candidates with a first-level university degree
  • At least eight years of population and development research experience
  • At least five years of sociodemographic research experience
  • English and Spanish are required
  • Authorization to work in Chile is required for local recruitment

Desired Criteria

  • Technical or vocational certificate in social sciences, economics, demography or related field is desirable
  • Redatam software knowledge is desirable
