Summary of Responsibilities

  • Advise on policy direction and humanitarian principles for complex assistance operations
  • Develop and implement coherent humanitarian and disaster-response strategies
  • Coordinate humanitarian and emergency assistance in Democratic Republic of the Congo
  • Prepare policy papers, reports, studies, guidelines and situation updates
  • Support emergency appeals and response plans and monitor donor-contribution use
  • Build capacity with Congolese authorities and develop country-specific emergency indicators
  • Coordinate with government, UN agencies, NGOs, diplomatic missions and media on early warning and contingency planning
  • Lead work teams and supervise junior officers

Role Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in political science, social science, international studies, public administration, economics, engineering, earth sciences or a related field
  • Minimum ten years of progressively responsible experience in humanitarian affairs, emergency preparedness, crisis or emergency relief management, rehabilitation, development or a related area
  • Humanitarian field experience in aid operations during emergencies
  • Senior-level management experience
  • English and French are required

Desired Criteria

  • Experience in a humanitarian context within the UN common system or comparable international organisation
  • Experience in health emergency
  • Experience in the West and Central Africa Region
