Summary of Responsibilities

  • Advise on policy issues that safeguard humanitarian principles and effective assistance
  • Monitor humanitarian developments and maintain a watch list of potential crises
  • Coordinate international humanitarian assistance and prepare situation reports on unmet requirements
  • Organise humanitarian studies and interagency technical-review meetings
  • Partner with agencies to plan and evaluate complex emergency-assistance programmes
  • Maintain collaboration with government, UN agencies, NGOs and other partners
  • Lead work teams and mentor junior officers
  • Analyse data and produce visualisations to support planning and decision-making

Role Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in political science, social science, public administration, international studies, economics, engineering, earth sciences or a related field
  • Minimum seven years of progressively responsible experience in humanitarian affairs, emergency preparedness, crisis or emergency relief management, rehabilitation, development or a related area
  • Experience in humanitarian inter-agency work
  • Two years of humanitarian field experience in emergency situations
  • English and French are required

Desired Criteria

  • Experience managing or supporting field teams in humanitarian operations
  • Experience drafting reports on humanitarian action
  • Experience in a health emergency
  • Experience in the West and Central Africa Region
