Job Description
Based in Beirut, this temporary role supports OCHA’s Crisis Response Division in coordinating humanitarian action. The Associate Humanitarian Affairs Officer researches and analyzes emergency information, prepares policy and reporting materials, supports appeals and donor tracking, convenes partners, participates in missions, and contributes to project formulation and resource mobilization.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Assist in designing and preparing studies on humanitarian, disaster and emergency-relief issues
- Research, analyze and present information from diverse sources on assigned issues
- Prepare written materials including studies, background papers, policy guidelines and parliamentary documents
- Develop and maintain reference information and respond to internal and external information requests
- Support international-assistance appeals and proper use of donor contributions
- Organize meetings, seminars, conferences and workshops with agencies and partners and serve as rapporteur
- Maintain awareness of humanitarian, political, policy and gender considerations in the assigned context
- Participate in technical assistance, disaster-assessment or other missions and support project formulation and resource mobilization
Role Requirements
- Advanced university degree in political science, social science, international studies, public administration, economics, engineering, earth sciences or a related field
- A first-level university degree with an additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree
- At least two years of progressively responsible experience in humanitarian affairs, emergency preparedness, crisis or emergency relief management, rehabilitation or development, unless qualifying through YPP, NCRE or G to P
- English is required
Desired Criteria
- Experience in research, analytical work and data management is desirable
- Experience in a humanitarian context in the UN Common System or comparable international organization is desirable
- Experience in the Middle East and North Africa region is desirable
