Job Description

Leads public information and communications for OHCHR's Cambodia Country Office, working with management, programme units, headquarters and United Nations communications colleagues. The role builds media relationships, runs campaigns, prepares press and digital content, monitors relevant coverage and advises leaders on media trends so the office can communicate human-rights work clearly and effectively.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Maintain regular relationships with local and international media
  • Plan and deliver communications campaigns with programme units and country leadership
  • Draft press releases, media responses, web stories and social media content
  • Prepare daily reviews of relevant news for internal distribution
  • Provide photographic and communications support during meetings and missions
  • Develop campaigns for significant dates such as Human Rights Day
  • Advise unit heads and management on media issues, developments and trends
  • Coordinate communications with the United Nations Communications Group and OHCHR headquarters

Role Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent in journalism, communications, media, law or a related field
  • At least three years of relevant experience in public information, communications, journalism, media relations or a related field
  • Experience working within the media industry and understanding international humanitarian contexts
  • Experienced use of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and presentation software
  • Portfolio of previously published work
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Multimedia capability including audio-visual production

Desired Criteria

  • Experience developing communication strategies, public outreach campaigns, media engagement and advocacy initiatives
  • Graphic-design and photo or video-editing skills
  • Experience in developing countries and with the United Nations or another international organisation

  • UN Volunteer assignment via UNV
  • Assignment duration is 365 days
  • Travel within the area of operations and possible transfer to other duty stations may be required
