Provincial Peaceful Elections Officer

UNDP seeks a UN Volunteer to support the Support to Peaceful Elections project across Wewak and Mount Hagen, Papua New Guinea, ahead of the 2027 parliamentary elections. The officer will assist provincial electoral preparation and monitoring, engage institutions and community actors, prepare situation briefings and reports, and strengthen local capacity for credible, inclusive electoral processes.

• Provide technical support to Provincial Elections Managers and provincial and regional electoral stakeholders in priority dispute hotspots
• Support Provincial Elections Steering Committees and election preparation, including information distribution, civic education and operational planning
• Coordinate with community and traditional leaders, ward counsellors, district representatives, civil-society and faith-based actors
• Monitor election preparations and prepare regular briefings for UN and UNDP senior management
• Prepare updates for the Peaceful Elections Situation Room and related monitoring initiatives
• Coordinate provincial activities with UN Women, OHCHR and other UN programme teams
• Support partnerships with the PNG Electoral Commission, political-party registry, provincial administrations and government departments
• Monitor project indicators and draft donor reports and communications materials

• Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in democratic governance, elections, institutional strengthening, international development or human rights
• Previous experience in electoral assistance, including logistics and operations or electoral-system reform
• Effective verbal and written communication with UNDP, governments, donors and UN agencies
• Strong drafting, report-writing and oral communication skills
• Ability to work under pressure in a multicultural and complex environment
• Previous experience in institutional capacity building
