Project Officer – Water Sciences Division

Supports UNESCO’s Lake Turkana programme from Nairobi, helping deliver water, climate and livelihood activities. The UN Volunteer coordinates project rollout, fieldwork, data collection and stakeholder events; contributes to CRIDA, water-quality and hydrological work; develops monitoring programmes; prepares communications and progress reports; and supports resource mobilisation.

• Support Lake Turkana project management and rollout
• Coordinate logistics and planning for project activities, fieldwork and data collection
• Support project workshops, dissemination events and stakeholder and community engagement
• Contribute to Climate Risk Informed Decision Analysis and water-quality monitoring for natural-resources management
• Support hydrological studies and groundwater assessments in the project area
• Develop and design water-resources monitoring programmes
• Create content for social media, newsletters and other communication channels
• Prepare steering-committee minutes, action plans and project-progress reports

• Experience in combating climate change, climate-adaptation strategies, flood management, water-resources management, water-resources quality, climate-change scenarios for water and natural-resources management, or hydrological process monitoring and modelling

• Volunteer assignment may be extended subject to funding, operational necessity and satisfactory performance, without expectation of renewal
• UN Volunteers receive a monthly Volunteer Living Allowance plus applicable settling-in, insurance, travel and other assignment benefits
• Duty station is Nairobi; living and security conditions require awareness of local conditions
