Job Description

The Programme Specialist implements UNESCO science agendas across Pacific Small Island Developing States from Apia. The P-4 role develops and manages science programmes, research networks and capacity building; advises governments on science and IOC initiatives; mobilizes partners and resources; and advances policy, climate action, disaster preparedness, STEM education and cooperation.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Promote science for sustainable development with Pacific Member States
  • Design and monitor work plans for Sciences Sector priorities
  • Develop research networks and science capacity-building activities
  • Advise governments on UNESCO Sciences and IOC initiatives
  • Integrate science priorities into UN sustainable-development frameworks
  • Mobilize regional and international partners for science programmes

Role Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in a scientific discipline relevant to the position
  • Minimum seven years of progressively responsible scientific or science-programme experience
  • Experience managing science programmes, resource mobilization and partnerships
  • Excellent knowledge of English
