Job Description

Reviews and drafts Solomon Islands’ National Population Policy for 2027–2036, integrating consultation evidence into a coherent implementation and monitoring framework. The international consultant refines policy and indicators with government and UNFPA partners, prepares validation materials, leads endorsement discussions and manages policy-validation workshops.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Finalise the national consultation report and provincial synthesis reports
  • Update policy principles, goals and implementation frameworks using consultation evidence
  • Address technical reviews from ministries and development partners
  • Align the policy with the Solomon Islands National Development Strategy
  • Refine measurable indicators and accurate baselines with the statistics office
  • Develop the National Population Policy monitoring and evaluation framework
  • Prepare the final policy and presentation for high-level government review
  • Lead the Steering Committee presentation and address endorsement queries

Role Requirements

  • Master’s qualification in Demography, Statistics, Social Sciences, Economics or Geography with specialisation in demographic studies
  • Experience with population or demographic studies
  • At least five years of quantitative and qualitative data-analysis experience
  • Fluency in English

Desired Criteria

  • Experience in the public sector, United Nations or another international development organisation
  • Statistical knowledge and analytical skills
  • Professional document production and editing
  • Cultural and social sensitivity
  • Ability to work independently under tight deadlines

Additional Information

  • Remote consultancy for 44 days from August to December 2026
  • Travel to Honiara and at least two provinces is required for consultations and validation
  • Approved travel costs will be provided by UNFPA
