Policy Specialist, Ending Violence Against Women

Provides regional technical and policy leadership on ending violence against women for UN Women’s West and Central Africa office. The specialist guides country-office programming and capacity, builds partnerships and financing, advances policy and knowledge products, and leads a thematic team to strengthen evidence-based initiatives, advocacy and results across the region.

• Manage integrated regional strategies, programme documents and monitoring for ending-violence-against-women programming
• Lead technical assistance, policy advice and capacity building for country and multi-country office teams
• Build partnerships with donors, regional and international actors and support resource mobilisation for thematic programming
• Research donor trends and prepare briefs on cooperation opportunities and regional development situations
• Develop policy recommendations, strategic guidance and analytical knowledge products on ending violence against women
• Represent UN Women in interagency groups and thematic networks that influence national policies
• Supervise the Ending Violence against Women unit and manage regional knowledge sharing, lessons and innovative approaches

• Master’s degree in gender, human rights, international relations or other social science fields; a first-level degree may be accepted with two additional qualifying years
• At least seven years of progressively responsible experience designing and managing programmes and advocating on ending violence against women, ideally including developing countries
• Experience in programme and policy analysis and strategic planning
• Experience building partnerships with governments, donors and civil-society organisations internationally and in the field
• Fluency in English and French

• Experience working with the UN system is desirable
• Experience working in West and Central Africa is desirable
