Job Description

Teaches part-time Russian language courses for UN staff in New York or remotely. The contractor prepares lessons, evaluates assignments and examinations, monitors learner progress, provides feedback, develops curricula and assessment materials, and contributes to language-learning projects and Moodle-based delivery.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Prepare and teach Russian language courses at all levels via in-person, online, or hybrid modality
  • Assess student performance and provide regular group and individual feedback
  • Administer courses in the Learning Management System including attendance and grading records
  • Develop new Russian language courses and self-study materials using innovative instructional technology
  • Design and grade language learning assessments and proficiency exams
  • Monitor student progress and suggest learning strategies
  • Contribute to language and communication skills projects as assigned

Role Requirements

  • Advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in language area studies, language teaching, applied linguistics, communication, education or pedagogy — OR first-level degree plus 2 additional years of experience
  • Expert level of competence in Russian (oral and written) per UN Language Framework
  • Advanced knowledge of English
  • Minimum 5 years of experience teaching Russian as a foreign or second language to adults in a multicultural setting
  • At least 3 years of recent experience in curriculum development, language examination design, or language teacher training

Desired Criteria

  • Post-degree training in second or foreign language teaching highly desirable
  • Experience using e-learning tools and online collaboration tools to teach a second language is desirable
  • Experience in a multicultural environment highly desirable
