Job Description
Processes and integrates geospatial meteorological, hydrological, water-resource and agricultural information for a rapid drought assessment in Viet Nam. The analyst develops maps, spatial products and a traceable GIS database to identify drought impacts, water constraints and priority areas, supporting evidence-based preparedness and resilient water-resource management.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Review drought-assessment materials, spatial datasets, maps and GIS databases relevant to water resources and agriculture
- Collect, organise and quality-control spatial meteorological, hydrological, agricultural and irrigation data
- Integrate historical drought information with spatial datasets to assess the extent and severity of impacts
- Develop maps of drought events, agricultural production, irrigation systems and areas exposed to forecast 2026 conditions
- Apply remote-sensing information to assess drought extent, crop distribution, vegetation changes and agricultural water stress
- Create spatial overlays and hotspot maps to identify priority areas and sectors for drought preparedness
- Establish and maintain a structured GIS database and prepare spatial products for reports and presentations
- Contribute technical inputs to the validation workshop, final assessment report and recommendations
Role Requirements
- Advanced university degree in geography, geomatics, GIS, remote sensing, environmental science, water-resources engineering, agricultural engineering or a closely related discipline
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in GIS, remote sensing, spatial analysis or related fields
- Working knowledge of English and Vietnamese
- Vietnamese nationality or residence in Viet Nam with a valid work permit
Desired Criteria
- Experience identifying irrigation service areas and linking irrigation systems with agricultural production
- Experience using Sentinel, Landsat, MODIS or similar satellite datasets
- Experience using FAO WaPOR or other remote-sensing water-productivity and evapotranspiration datasets
- Experience developing GIS decision-support products for drought management or disaster-risk reduction
- Experience working with government agencies, research institutions, development partners and local authorities in Viet Nam
