Job Description

IUCN seeks an Event Communications Coordinator for its 2027 World Protected and Conserved Areas Congress. Based in San José, the fixed-term role coordinates communications with the host country and IUCN partners; delivers multilingual event content, media and newsletter campaigns; monitors communications results; and leads post-event reporting to sustain engagement and promote Congress outcomes.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Serve as communications focal point between the Secretariat, host country and World Commission on Protected Areas
  • Produce multilingual corporate event communications and marketing materials
  • Create website content and coordinate with the Congress webmaster
  • Plan and implement the event newsletter marketing campaign
  • Support media relations and monitor communications performance against strategic goals
  • Lead post-event communications and prepare the lessons-learnt report

Role Requirements

  • Native-level proficiency in English and Spanish
  • Degree in marketing, public relations, communications, journalism or a relevant field
  • At least 6 years of experience in a similar role
  • Excellent writing skills in English and Spanish
  • Ability to be in Panama from 4 to 10 September 2027 and travel as required

Desired Criteria

  • Success in event marketing or communications campaigns for large international events
  • Experience with web management and newsletter production
  • Video-production skills
  • French competency
