Job Description
Delivers marine and ocean-engineering expertise for NATO’s Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation, supporting research, technology development and modernisation projects. Engineers design, integrate and validate systems and sensors, lead trials and lifecycle activities, and translate operational needs into tested solutions and documentation for laboratory, shipboard and underwater use.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Lead or support the engineering lifecycle of systems, equipment, prototypes and limited-production solutions
- Translate scientific, operational and user needs into requirements, specifications, interface documents, test plans and acceptance procedures
- Design, develop, integrate, test and validate embedded, marine, sensor and unmanned systems
- Integrate hardware, software, sensors, payloads, data-acquisition systems and electro-mechanical components
- Support procurement, supplier interfaces, testing, calibration, maintenance and repair activities
- Plan and report laboratory, land-based, shipboard and at-sea trials
- Coordinate trials with staff, contractors, suppliers and scientific users when required
- Prepare technical studies, drawings, specifications, procedures, reports and user documentation
Role Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering, scientific or technical discipline with at least four years of post-related experience, or a Master's degree in a relevant discipline with at least two years
- Experience designing, developing, integrating, testing, validating, operating or maintaining engineering, scientific-instrumentation or maritime systems
- Experience preparing technical documentation including specifications, procedures, test reports, feasibility studies, proposals or engineering reports
- Experience supporting laboratory, field or at-sea operations
- Thorough written and spoken knowledge of one NATO language
- English SLP 3333 in listening, speaking, reading and writing
- Fit-for-sea certificate meeting IMO and ILO standards before taking up duty
- Nationality of a NATO member country
Desired Criteria
- Experience supervising or coordinating engineers, technicians or multidisciplinary teams
- Experience with firmware, edge computing, data links, automation or control software
- Experience integrating systems into marine, underwater, autonomous or remotely operated platforms
- Experience with underwater acoustic, sonar, optical, photonic or oceanographic sensing
- Experience in NATO, defence, maritime, scientific or multinational environments

Additional Information
- Three-year definite-duration contract renewable subject to business needs, performance and skill rotation
