Job Description
This developer will design and train transformer-based foundation models for particle-physics detector data within CERN’s TURING project. The role evaluates performance and scientific use cases, develops prototypes that generalise across detector applications, and strengthens collaboration between deep-learning researchers and the experimental-physics community.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Lead performance evaluation and use-case validation within the TURING project
- Develop a robust foundation-model prototype that generalises across multiple detector use cases
- Design and train transformer architectures using calorimeter and specialised detector data
- Investigate self-supervised learning methods for multi-task capabilities and computational efficiency
- Strengthen collaboration with CERN’s experimental-physics community on foundation models for high-energy physics
Role Requirements
- Master's degree with two to six years of professional experience since graduation, or a PhD with no more than three years of professional experience since graduation
- Nationality of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State
- No previous CERN fellow or graduate contract
- Spoken and written English with a commitment to learn French
