Job Description

Develops and maintains software for optics measurement and correction in CERN accelerators, improving modelling, analysis and commissioning workflows for the High-Luminosity LHC. The role creates automation, graphical interfaces and control-centre tools that support safe, reliable beam operation.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Maintain and extend the optics measurement and correction framework used in LHC commissioning and operation
  • Develop software that improves optics measurement and correction capability
  • Update accelerator-model creation and correction algorithms for new simulation tools
  • Automate measurement and analysis workflows where viable
  • Create graphical interfaces and analysis tools for the CERN Control Centre
  • Participate in optics measurements and analyse accelerator data

Role Requirements

  • Nationality of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State, subject to the published nationality ceilings
  • Master's degree in physics or software engineering with two to six years of professional experience, or a PhD with no more than three years of experience
  • Programming and software-design background with Python experience
  • Experience developing graphical user interfaces
  • Experience with version control and collaborative development workflows
  • Spoken and written English or French
  • No previous CERN fellow or graduate contract
  • Availability for night, Sunday and official-holiday work when required
