Job Description
UNESCO seeks a consultant in Santiago to adapt its cultural-emergencies guide for Chile and Latin America and the Caribbean. The one-month, deliverable-based assignment analyses the original Brazilian publication, contextualises disaster-risk guidance and incorporates regional institutional frameworks, technical consultations and cultural-heritage recovery experience.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Review the original Portuguese guide and identify content transferable to Chile and the regional context
- Prepare a Spanish version adapted to Chile and Latin America and the Caribbean
- Identify institutional frameworks, competencies and coordination mechanisms for cultural-heritage disaster prevention and response
- Review documentation and conduct focused technical consultations on Chilean and regional experience
- Prepare an analysis report, adaptation plan and draft guide with updated references and documented national cases
- Validate the draft with UNESCO and designated technical stakeholders and deliver a final publication-ready version
Role Requirements
- Postgraduate degree in disaster-risk management, conservation and restoration, cultural-heritage management, museology, archival science, library science, architecture, territorial planning or a related discipline
- At least five years of professional experience in disaster-risk management, emergency preparedness and response and/or protection of cultural heritage in crisis situations
- Demonstrated knowledge of Chile’s disaster-risk-management context, institutions, planning instruments, coordination mechanisms and response procedures
- Fluent Spanish with excellent technical-writing ability
- Advanced Portuguese reading and analysis ability for the original UNESCO Brazil publication
Desired Criteria
- Experience with flood, heavy-rainfall, inundation and other hydrometeorological risks
- Experience in cooperation projects in Latin America and the Caribbean
