Job Description
Develops a comprehensive assessment of Mauritania’s institutional and operational response to missing migrants. The consultant researches legislation and data, conducts interviews and field observation in Nouakchott and Nouadhibou, identifies gaps and recommendations, and presents the findings to the National Task Force. The work supports national focal points and a coordinated response to migrant deaths and disappearances.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Conduct desktop research on relevant publications, data and legislation
- Interview government officials and stakeholders in Mauritania
- Observe disembarkation sites in Nouakchott and Nouadhibou
- Develop the Missing Migrant Assessment
- Prepare inception and interview reports
- Present findings to the National Task Force
- Incorporate Task Force and partner feedback into the final assessment
Role Requirements
- Advanced degree in Forensic Science, Forensic Medicine, Forensic Pathology, Forensic Anthropology or closely related field
- Extensive experience on missing persons including missing migrants
- Fluency in English and French, oral and written
Desired Criteria
- Experience with humanitarian organisations addressing missing migrants
Skills to Have
Additional info
- Travel to Nouakchott and Nouadhibou is required
- Consultants must arrange their own non-occupational medical insurance
- Appointment is subject to funding confirmation and clearances
