Job Description

Manages and supervises civil-infrastructure works for UNOPS’ Agricultural Diversification Project in Guinea-Bissau. The engineer coordinates design, construction and procurement activities; assures quality, safety and environmental compliance; and supports contractors, government counterparts and project teams to deliver rehabilitation and infrastructure works on time, within budget and to required standards.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Plan and supervise civil-engineering projects from design through completion
  • Support planning, scheduling and delivery of rehabilitation, construction and infrastructure activities
  • Review design briefs, technical documentation, bills of quantities and cost estimates
  • Conduct site assessments and inspections to verify quality and compliance
  • Review contractor submittals, progress reports and invoices and recommend payment releases
  • Monitor contractor and implementing-partner performance, costs and delivery timelines
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, social, environmental and PSEAH standards
  • Maintain site records and support commissioning, handover and project closure

Role Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, structural engineering or a related field with two years of relevant experience, or a master's degree with no experience requirement
  • Relevant experience in civil engineering, structural works, construction technology, construction supervision or monitoring
  • Fluency in French

Desired Criteria

  • Professional certification or membership in a civil-engineering association
  • Experience in multicultural environments or United Nations system organisations in a developing country
  • Experience in development or humanitarian contexts
