Job Description

The associate editor will help produce CERN Courier's print and digital coverage of high-energy physics for an international scientific audience. The role develops story ideas, commissions and edits expert content, writes news and features, manages digital channels and works with researchers, publishing partners and the wider CERN communications team on editorial production.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Liaise with the international high-energy physics community on developments in the field
  • Generate story ideas and undertake fact checking and proofreading
  • Commission and edit expert-authored feature articles
  • Interview leading physicists and write news and features
  • Curate the CERN Courier website and manage social media
  • Coordinate timely production of magazine sections
  • Liaise with publishing partners, institutions, authors and readers

Role Requirements

  • Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of professional experience since graduation or a PhD with a maximum of 3 years of professional experience since graduation
  • Nationality of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State
  • Research experience in high-energy physics or a closely related field
  • Experience in writing, editing and publishing or aptitude to develop these skills rapidly
  • Fluent written English

Desired Criteria

  • Background in particle physics
  • Science journalism experience with a physics background
