Job Description

This P-2 assignment supports the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine in Vienna. The Associate Interpreter provides accurate English, Russian and Ukrainian interpretation and translation for interviews and field missions, protects confidential information, and contributes data-informed analysis and reporting while applying a gender perspective to sensitive documentation.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate translation and simultaneous interpretation between English and Russian or Ukrainian
  • Apply a gender perspective to language and documentation of sexual and gender-based violence
  • Maintain strict security and confidentiality of information
  • Participate in field missions and interpret interviews with victims, witnesses and sources
  • Collect and analyse data, identify trends and prepare insights using graphs, charts, tables and data-visualization methods

Role Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in translation, interpretation, languages or a related field, or a first-level degree with two additional years of qualifying experience
  • At least 2 years of translation or interpretation experience, including academic research work
  • English, Russian and Ukrainian required
  • Strict security and confidentiality of information

Desired Criteria

  • One year of translation or interpretation experience within the United Nations Common System
  • Experience providing translation or interpretation during investigations
  • Experience providing translation or interpretation on human rights-related subjects
