Job Description
Monitors and advances human rights in Bosnia and Herzegovina through analysis, field verification, technical advice and engagement with authorities, civil society and United Nations partners. The role supports anti-discrimination work, reporting and early warning, strengthens national human rights systems and capacity, and integrates rights, gender and inclusion perspectives into policy, development and security processes.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Monitor human rights and humanitarian-law implementation and follow up on recommendations
- Collect and analyse evidence on rights situations and violations
- Conduct field verification missions and early-warning exercises
- Draft human rights reports, briefings, legal analyses and policy advice
- Support national counterparts to strengthen human rights systems and complaints mechanisms
- Design and deliver human rights capacity-building activities
- Integrate human rights into development, humanitarian, political and security processes
- Engage UN entities and partners to advance rights-based policies and programmes
Role Requirements
- Advanced degree in a relevant field, or a first-level degree with two additional years of qualifying experience
- At least two years of progressively responsible experience in human rights or related areas
- Knowledge of international human rights law, norms and standards
- Knowledge of regional and international human rights mechanisms
- English proficiency
- Bosnian, Croatian or Serbian proficiency
- National Professional Officer candidates must be nationals of the country of the position
