Job Description

Leads technical work on integrating traditional, complementary and integrative medicine into health systems through WHO norms, clinical guidance and regulatory standards. The officer will strengthen monitoring of the global strategy, support research and implementation studies, and provide coordination and technical assistance to Member States and partners implementing the 2025–2034 strategy.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Develop and update the monitoring and evaluation framework for the WHO Global Traditional Medicine Strategy
  • Coordinate World Health Assembly-mandated reporting with WHO headquarters, regional and country offices
  • Support clinical research and implementation studies that develop evidence-based TCIM norms and standards
  • Develop prioritised WHO guidelines and evidence-based interventions for universal health coverage packages
  • Develop TCIM care-quality norms and standards for regulation
  • Provide technical support and coordination to Member States, partners and stakeholders implementing the global strategy

Role Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in traditional, complementary or integrative medicine
  • At least seven years of experience in traditional, complementary and integrative medicine programmes
  • Experience in TCIM normative and clinical practice
  • Experience collaborating with national agencies in traditional, complementary and integrative medicine
  • Demonstrated experience developing WHO global strategies or TCIM action plans for Member State and partner implementation
  • Expert knowledge of English

Desired Criteria

  • PhD in traditional, complementary or integrative medicine
  • Experience working with WHO, UN or international agencies
  • Experience working in developing countries
  • Resource-mobilisation experience for TCIM initiatives
  • Beginner knowledge of another WHO language

  • Fixed-term appointment for two years
