Technical Officer, Medical Engineering and Infrastructure Development

Supports WHO Africa to strengthen Member States’ biomedical engineering, medical-device management and health-infrastructure capacity. The National UN Volunteer develops policies, standards and technical guidance; supports planning, procurement, installation and maintenance of medical equipment; assesses systems and needs; advances lifecycle and asset management; reviews infrastructure plans;.

• Develop and implement regional policies guidance standards tools and frameworks for biomedical engineering
• Assist Member States with equipment planning procurement installation commissioning maintenance calibration and decommissioning
• Assess biomedical engineering systems equipment inventories maintenance capacities and health-technology needs
• Support equipment lifecycle and asset-management systems
• Develop and disseminate medical-device quality safety performance and management standards
• Review equipment plans specifications and technology requirements for health-facility infrastructure
• Contribute medical-equipment and health-technology support to emergency preparedness
• Develop training materials and organize workshops and technical meetings
• Collect analyze and report health-technology and infrastructure indicators
• Facilitate exchanges with governments academia professional associations and development partners

• Degree in biomedical engineering clinical engineering health technology management health infrastructure planning electrical engineering mechanical engineering industrial engineering public health with health-technology specialization or related field
• At least five years in biomedical engineering medical-device management health-technology management or health-infrastructure development
• English and French proficiency
• Medical-equipment lifecycle management maintenance systems and health-technology assessment knowledge

• Professional certification in biomedical engineering health technology management project management or related discipline
• Government health-facility development-partner or international-organization experience
• Low- and middle-income country or African-Region experience
