Job Description

NATO SHAPE seeks a Staff Officer in Mons to establish operations-assessment collective-training conditions and update doctrine under the NATO Response System and Operations Planning Process. The three-year role develops policy, training requirements, data sets and risk guidance; analyses lessons; supports campaign assessments; and produces strategic planning products for NATO’s long-term planning.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Develop operations-assessment and operations-risk policy documents for collective training
  • Develop assessment and risk requirements for collective training
  • Translate operations-assessment requirements into exercise and training policy and planning documents
  • Develop and coordinate data sets for operations-assessment collective training
  • Analyse lessons identified and apply them to documents and future training events
  • Develop guidance and capabilities for operations-risk identification, assessment and planning

Role Requirements

  • At least two years of experience developing, maintaining, reviewing and revising strategic operations, planning and assessment products
  • Experience developing policy, doctrine, guidance, procedures, education and training requirements for operations assessment
  • Ability to translate operations-assessment and risk requirements into education, training, exercises, events and planning products
  • University degree in sociology, behavioural science or related discipline with two years relevant experience, or advanced vocational qualification with four years relevant experience
  • English SLP 3333

Desired Criteria

  • Experience in NATO missions or operations is desirable
  • Master’s degree in social or conflict studies is desirable
  • Operations-planning, assessment, evaluation or risk certifications are desirable
  • The successful candidate must be willing to undertake deployments and temporary-duty assignments
