Job Description

Supports UNECA's Logistics Unit with duty-free import and export services for official goods, staff household effects and vehicles. The individual contractor processes shipments and regulatory clearances, coordinates with freight forwarders and government bodies, resolves delivery discrepancies and maintains accurate records so shipping services meet host-country requirements and operational deadlines.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Process inbound and outbound shipments for official goods, staff effects and vehicles
  • Handle shipments for UN agencies and secretariats covered by UNECA memoranda of understanding
  • Maintain duty-free privileges in line with Ethiopia's host-country agreement and staff rules
  • Arrange clearances and deliveries for conference and press equipment
  • Advise staff on duty-free importation of household goods and vehicles
  • Prepare note verbales and regulatory correspondence and maintain shipment files
  • Resolve delivery discrepancies and process return-to-vendor documentation
  • Review forwarder invoices, storage and demurrage charges and secure credit notes where required

Role Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least five years of progressively responsible experience in customs-clearing processes
  • Fluency in oral and written English with excellent writing ability
