Senior Construction Associate (Shelter)

Provides shelter and infrastructure support for IOM Malawi's climate-displacement response. Working with the RE2CLID programme, the associate assesses sites and damage, develops designs and bills of quantities, supervises construction and rehabilitation, coordinates with authorities and partners, and strengthens artisan capacity for safer shelter delivery in displacement-affected communities.

• Plan and implement site assessments and site planning before shelter and infrastructure construction
• Assess existing shelters, infrastructure and disaster damage to identify rehabilitation and maintenance needs
• Develop bills of quantities and designs for shelters and infrastructure and facilitate their approval
• Plan, coordinate and supervise construction activity and deployed labour to complete works on time
• Liaise with authorities, partners and other stakeholders on shelter and infrastructure construction and management
• Document good practices and lessons learned and contribute to standard operating procedures and concept papers
• Design and support technical training for artisans, including trainee identification and training records

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture or another engineering-related field with at least five years of relevant professional experience
• At least five years of experience in site assessment, planning and layout for shelter construction
• At least five years of experience designing and supervising communal, transition and permanent shelters for internally displaced persons under Sphere Standards and applicable government guidelines

• Prior experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-governmental or government institutions in a multicultural setting is an advantage
