Job Description
The Protocol Officer supports UNISFA's Mission Chief of Staff in Khartoum by managing host-country liaison, diplomatic protocol and official clearances. The role coordinates senior engagements, travel, visas, customs and flight permissions; advises personnel on privileges and local procedures; and maintains correspondence, tracking systems and government contact records.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Serve as focal point and liaison with Sudanese authorities, diplomatic counterparts, UN entities and other stakeholders on protocol and host-country matters
- Coordinate official appointments, meetings, travel, accommodation, immigration, visa formalities and accreditation for mission leadership
- Advise personnel and mission units on host-country procedures, privileges, immunities, customs, tax exemptions and official clearances
- Follow up flight, overflight, customs, duty-free and VAT-clearance requests with government authorities
- Maintain tracking for note verbales and clearance submissions and pursue outstanding decisions
- Prepare protocol correspondence, briefings, memoranda and documentation and maintain a directory of official counterparts
Role Requirements
- Advanced university degree in Political Science, International Relations, Law, Foreign Affairs or a related area
- A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree
- Minimum five years of progressively responsible experience in a similar protocol position with government or UN/international intergovernmental organizations
- Practical experience in at least three areas including accreditation, duty-free, VAT exemption, vehicle registration or driving-license processing in a diplomatic setting
- English and Arabic at UN Level II in reading, writing, listening and speaking
- Open to nationals of Sudan only
Desired Criteria
- Previous protocol experience with the Sudan Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Primature
- Experience working in multicultural teams and facilitating coordination with Force and Police uniformed components
