Job Description

PAHO seeks an international regional consultant to strengthen quality-control laboratories for medicines, vaccines and health technologies across the Americas. The consultant will support regulatory authorities using the WHO Global Benchmarking Tool, improve laboratory plans and standards, convene reliance and training groups, coordinate networks and provide technical assistance.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Support national regulatory authorities in strengthening Laboratory Testing under the Global Benchmarking Tool
  • Develop and update laboratory procedures, guidelines and quality-management tools
  • Support laboratory components of Institutional Development Plans in prioritized countries
  • Facilitate a regional technical working group on reliance in laboratory testing
  • Develop learning resources and training itineraries for regulatory laboratory staff
  • Coordinate laboratory networks and strategic partners across the region

Role Requirements

  • University degree in pharmacy, chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, biomedical sciences or a related field
  • At least 13 years of progressive quality-control laboratory experience for medical products
  • Professional proficiency in Spanish and working knowledge of English
  • Candidate must be based in the Region of the Americas

Desired Criteria

  • Postgraduate training in regulatory affairs, quality management or public health
  • Experience in WHO laboratory prequalification or international accreditation
  • Experience in international technical cooperation
