Job Description
Provides national technical leadership for FAO's Sri Lanka soil-information work under TCP/SRL/4105. The expert will strengthen soil profiling, mapping and agro-ecological databases, validate climate and land-use inputs, and deliver crop-suitability products that support evidence-based agricultural planning, climate-responsive recommendations and land-use decisions.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Develop the agro-ecological region map and agro-ecological database of Sri Lanka
- Update the soil profile information system and soil profile database for Sri Lanka's dry, intermediate and wet zones
- Classify the soil series map and database of Sri Lanka
- Map potential cultivation areas for annual field crops, vegetables, root and tuber crops, fruits, plantation crops and spices
- Compile and submit crop-suitability maps, soil-profile information, agro-ecological maps and related databases
Role Requirements
- Postgraduate diploma in Soil Surveying or a closely related discipline
- At least 10 years of professional experience in soil surveying, land suitability assessment, soil mapping, agro-ecological zoning, crop zoning or natural resources management
- Working knowledge of English at C1 level
- Working knowledge of Sinhala and/or Tamil
- Sri Lankan nationality or residence with a valid work permit
