Job Description

Strengthens climate-smart crop production within FAO Zimbabwe’s resilience programme by supporting Farmer Field School delivery and agronomic extension. The specialist generates evidence on productivity, expands conservation agriculture and climate-proof technologies, develops training materials and demonstrations, and coordinates crop training with partners and government extension staff.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Guide the identification of needs, design, implementation and monitoring of FAO Zimbabwe crop programmes
  • Collect and analyse data on Farmer Field School productivity impacts
  • Expand climate-proof and smart agriculture through conservation agriculture and good agricultural-practice technologies
  • Develop training and extension materials and deliver practical training for extension staff
  • Facilitate on-farm and on-station crop demonstrations and trials through Farmer Field Schools
  • Develop crop pamphlets, flyers and other extension materials
  • Coordinate crop training and extension programmes for consortium partners and government staff
  • Contribute to donor-compliant project progress reports and field missions

Role Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in agriculture, agronomy, climate-smart agriculture, soil science, agricultural extension, environment and natural resources management or a related field
  • At least five years of progressively responsible experience in agriculture, project coordination or management
  • Working knowledge of English at level C
  • National of Zimbabwe

Desired Criteria

  • Experience in agronomy, climate-smart agriculture, extension and project coordination or management
  • Experience with FAO tools and procedures for project implementation, monitoring and reporting
  • Experience across humanitarian, development and normative contexts
  • Previous experience with UN or international organisations in similar positions
