Job Description
The Legal Officer supports IOM’s Contract Law Division with legal advice on United States and Canadian funding and operations. The post advises on negotiations and contract disputes, develops contract templates, provides contract-law training, drafts and negotiates legal terms while protecting IOM’s legal interests under its rules, regulations and international legal framework.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice on contracts related to United States and Canadian funding and operations
- Act as focal point for United States and Canada contract matters
- Develop contract templates to protect IOM’s legal interests
- Advise on negotiations and contract-related disputes
- Train IOM personnel on contract-law issues
- Draft and negotiate legal terms and contracts
Role Requirements
- Master’s degree in law, public international law or a related legal field with five years of relevant experience, or a bachelor’s degree with seven years
- Recent legal practice in commercial or contract law or dispute resolution
- Excellent writing skills
- Legal research and contract-review skills
- Fluency in English
Desired Criteria
- Admission to practise law in the United States
- Working knowledge of another official UN language
