Job Description

This Legal Affairs Internship supports the IIIM's Judicial Support and Cooperation Section in Geneva. The intern conducts legal research, assists with legal drafting and reviews, follows judicial and legislative developments relevant to Syria, maps legal frameworks, and helps the section contribute information and expertise to investigations, prosecutions and judicial authorities.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Conduct legal research on domestic and international criminal law, human rights and public international law
  • Assist Legal Officers with drafting or reviewing legal documents, instruments and materials
  • Monitor judicial proceedings and legislative developments relevant to international-criminal-law violations in Syria
  • Map legislative frameworks relevant to the Judicial Support and Cooperation Section
  • Facilitate section contributions to other IIIM sections while handling no evidentiary material in the Central Repository

Role Requirements

  • Enrollment in or completion of a graduate programme, or enrollment in or completion of the final academic year of a first university degree programme
  • Field of study closely related to law, international relations, human rights, political affairs or a related area
  • Fluency in spoken and written English
  • Complete online application with a cover letter in English stating motivation and availability dates

Desired Criteria

  • Knowledge of criminal accountability in the Syrian context
  • Good knowledge of standard software applications including MS Word, MS Outlook and MS Teams
