Job Description

The engineer will help migrate CERN’s LHC Primary Gas Systems to a dedicated Experimental Areas infrastructure. Working across PLC logic, field instrumentation and WinCC OA supervision, the role develops control applications, supports testing and commissioning, and provides first-line operational support for gas-system control infrastructure used by experimental-area teams.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the migration of LHC Primary Gas Systems including PLC and WinCC OA development and commissioning
  • Develop and configure gas-system control applications on Schneider M580 and Siemens S7-1500 PLCs
  • Specify I/O and instrumentation for primary and detector gas systems and develop HMI, touch-panel and notification functions
  • Support factory and site acceptance testing, installation, commissioning, documentation and first-line operational support in experimental areas

Role Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in automation or control engineering
  • Maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation
  • Nationality of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State
  • No PhD and no previous CERN fellow or graduate contract
  • Good spoken and written English with a commitment to learn French
  • Valid driving licence

Desired Criteria

  • Familiarity with WinCC OA
  • Knowledge of continuous integration or model-driven code generation
