Job Description

Supports ESCAP’s Transport Research and Policy Section in Bangkok on sustainable transport research and policy outreach. The intern researches transport, climate and urban-mobility themes; analyses quantitative data; prepares case studies, policy outputs and communication materials; supports the Transport and Communications Bulletin; and assists meetings, workshops and section projects for transport-policy decision-making.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Research sustainable transport, public transport and urban-mobility themes
  • Support review and editing of the Transport and Communications Bulletin
  • Prepare case studies and background materials for meetings and workshops
  • Prepare policy briefs, blogs, publications and technical reports
  • Conduct literature reviews and identify research gaps
  • Collect, analyse and compile transport data from primary and secondary sources
  • Prepare reports with tables, graphs and charts
  • Develop presentations, infographics and advocacy materials

Role Requirements

  • Enrolment in or completion of a graduate programme, or the final academic year of a first university degree programme
  • Fluency in spoken and written English

Desired Criteria

  • Experience in quantitative data analysis and transport-modelling techniques
  • Experience using R, Python or Matlab
  • Interest in compiling and disseminating data insights for policymaking
  • Interest in research activities
  • Knowledge of an additional official United Nations language

  • Unpaid full-time internship for up to six months
