Job Description

Leads the economic and financial analysis for Kenya's midwifery investment case, building an evidence-based argument for scaling up midwifery models of care. The consultant will assess financing and costs, quantify health and economic benefits, calculate return on investment and work with government, professional bodies and UNFPA partners to produce practical financing recommendations and investment-case deliverables.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Analyse Kenya's SRMNCAH and midwifery financing landscape, funding gaps and investment opportunities
  • Estimate costs for scaling up midwifery interventions and workforce development using economic models
  • Quantify health and economic benefits from improved midwifery care
  • Calculate benefit-cost ratios and return on investment for scale-up scenarios
  • Collaborate with public health, government and professional stakeholders to validate findings
  • Lead economic and financial sections of the investment case and related policy products

Role Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in economics, health economics, public finance or a related field
  • At least 7 years of professional experience in health financing, health economic evaluation or cost-benefit analysis
  • Demonstrated expertise in return-on-investment analysis for social-sector programmes
  • Excellent analytical, quantitative, writing and communication skills in English
  • English language required

Desired Criteria

  • Knowledge of health costing and economic modelling tools such as OneHealth Tool and LiST
  • Strong understanding of innovative health-financing mechanisms
  • Experience working in Kenya or the East and Southern Africa region
