Job Description

UNFPA Ghana seeks a national Human Rights Officer in Accra to advance gender and human-rights programming, reduce gender-based violence and support ICPD priorities. The consultant will analyse political and rights issues, advise government and civil-society counterparts, integrate rights and gender in programmes, build capacity, represent UNFPA and prepare reports and policy communications.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Coordinate thematic and country human-rights activities
  • Research accountability and rights issues affecting vulnerable populations
  • Advise government, civil-society and other relevant actors
  • Integrate human-rights and gender considerations into country-office programmes
  • Review partner training on human rights and rule of law
  • Represent UNFPA at human-rights meetings
  • Build national capacity and knowledge sharing
  • Draft reports, communications and briefings

Role Requirements

  • Advanced degree in law, human rights, international relations, gender studies or a related field, or LLB plus Qualifying Certificate in Law
  • At least 3 years of experience in sexual and reproductive health or national or international human-rights law
  • At least 3 years of programme or project-management experience
  • Fluency in English

Desired Criteria

  • Experience on sexuality education and key populations
  • Experience working with government institutions, NGOs, private-sector or donor institutions
  • Knowledge of reproductive-health and population-policy frameworks
  • Familiarity with UNFPA programmes and policies
