Assistant Human Rights OfficerNew

Supports UNAMA's Human Rights Service in monitoring, investigating and reporting on human rights across Afghanistan, with attention to protection of civilians and vulnerable groups. The officer analyses evidence, maintains case information, engages authorities and civil society, and helps integrate human-rights and gender considerations into mission, agency and awareness-raising activities.

• Plan and implement activities under UNAMA's human rights mandate
• Monitor and analyse human rights developments, including protection and fundamental-freedoms concerns
• Research, collect, verify and synthesise human rights information from open sources
• Apply United Nations methodology to human rights monitoring, reporting and investigation
• Liaise with de facto authorities, civil society and United Nations entities
• Support fact finding on international human rights and humanitarian-law violations
• Record verified violation cases in databases and analyse monitoring data
• Draft reports, briefings and recommendations on human rights matters

• Advanced degree in law, human rights, political science, international relations, social sciences, humanities or a similar field, or a bachelor's degree with two additional years of qualifying experience
• Two years of progressively responsible experience in human rights, social work, legal affairs or a closely related field
• Experience with national or international human rights standards, instruments or mechanisms
• Experience in human rights monitoring, reporting, awareness raising and capacity building
• English, Dari and Pashto at UN Level III in reading, writing, listening and speaking
