Job Description

UNICEF Innocenti seeks a Finance Assistant to run operational finance in Florence. The G-5 role processes invoices, payments, travel claims and advances; monitors budgets and grants; maintains records, reconciliations and controls; supports colleagues with finance queries; prepares reports and analyses; and improves procedures using digital and AI-enabled tools.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Review and process invoices, payments, travel claims, advances and other financial transactions
  • Use SAP and UNICEF corporate systems to record transactions correctly and on time
  • Track spending against budgets and grants and review commitments and outstanding balances
  • Perform reconciliations, maintain records and support month-end and year-end closure activities
  • Ensure compliance with UNICEF financial policies, procedures and audit requirements
  • Respond to finance queries and advise colleagues on documentation and financial procedures
  • Prepare recurring and ad hoc financial reports and analyse discrepancies requiring corrective action
  • Develop SOPs, guidance notes and job aids and contribute to operational efficiency improvements

Role Requirements

  • Completion of Secondary Education
  • At least five years of clerical experience in finance and accounting
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Suite products including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Proficiency in English and Italian
  • Italian citizenship, EU/Schengen nationality or a valid Italian work permit held at application

Desired Criteria

  • Knowledge of another official UN language
  • Professional or university courses in financial management or business administration
  • ERP experience with SAP, Oracle or similar
  • UN system or UNICEF experience
  • Experience using AI tools to improve operational efficiency or data analysis
