Job Description

Supports ECA's Sub-regional Office for West Africa with economic analysis, policy research and development-cooperation delivery. The officer develops and interprets data, prepares analytical and intergovernmental inputs, contributes to technical-cooperation projects and training, and monitors implementation to advance inclusive structural transformation and sustainable development in West Africa.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Develop socio-economic databases and qualitative information for economic assignments
  • Apply econometric models to analyse trends, policy alternatives and relationships
  • Draft technical papers and analytical studies on economic development
  • Prepare inputs for intergovernmental reports, statements and meetings
  • Organize expert meetings, seminars and training for national experts
  • Prepare and monitor technical-cooperation programmes and projects
  • Analyse data and present insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports

Role Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in economics or a related field; a first-level degree with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted
  • At least five years of progressively responsible experience in sustainable development, regional integration, economic research and analysis, policy formulation or applying economic principles in development programmes
  • Experience in project management and evaluation relating to multilateral environmental agreements at national or international level
  • English and French are required

Desired Criteria

  • Two or more years of experience in data analytics or a related area
  • Experience analysing trends and policy challenges in developing countries
  • Experience writing analytical policy papers
  • Experience designing development-cooperation strategies and interorganizational collaboration frameworks
