- Highest educational qualification is a general secondary education diploma or a shorter non-university degree; bachelor's, master's or PhD holders not eligible
- National of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State (Pakistani and Lithuanian nationals currently not considered for 2026 start dates)
- Must never have held a CERN fellow or graduate contract before
