Job Description

Provides safe transport and vehicle support for UNHCR’s Dominican Republic operation, enabling staff and protection activities to operate. The driver transports authorised passengers and materials, maintains assigned vehicles, follows security guidance and accident procedures, and supports field-mission logistics while applying strong knowledge of local roads, traffic and safety conditions.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Drive UNHCR vehicles to transport authorised passengers and collect or deliver documents and items
  • Meet official personnel and facilitate immigration and customs formalities when required
  • Inspect and maintain vehicle oil, water, batteries, brakes and tyres to required safety standards
  • Carry out minor repairs, arrange further repairs and keep vehicles clean
  • Apply prescribed procedures following accidents
  • Record official trips, mileage, fuel consumption and maintenance activities
  • Follow supervisor and security-focal-point guidance
  • Ensure valid documentation for passengers, items and cargo

Role Requirements

  • Two years of relevant experience with completion of primary education or a high school diploma or higher
  • Valid driving licence
  • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations
  • English and Spanish at B2 level
  • Dominican Republic nationality or existing Dominican work and residency permits for non-Dominican applicants

Desired Criteria

  • Knowledge of local roads and traffic conditions
  • Understanding of safety regulations and vehicle maintenance
