Close Protection Officer

Leads and delivers close-protection operations for BINUH by advising on protection policy and procedures, training protection personnel and principals, maintaining equipment and resources, and coordinating with host-country authorities. The officer supports mission planning, protective operations and the readiness of the Close Protection Unit in a high-risk field setting.

• Advise the Chief Security Officer on close-protection operations
• Prepare mission close-protection policy, guidance and standard operating procedures
• Develop close-protection training for personnel and protected persons
• Conduct personal-protection tactics and techniques training
• Develop close-protection requirements for the mission-budget process
• Operate and maintain close-protection equipment
• Lead the Close Protection Unit when required
• Coordinate close-protection operations with host-country authorities

• High school diploma or equivalent
• UNDSS Close Protection Officer Certification or Revised Close Protection Officer Course training
• Technical military or police procedures training and close-protection, self-defense and security-techniques training
• At least eight years of experience, including five progressively responsible years in close protection
• At least one year of international experience in a conflict or post-conflict environment
• UN certification to use close-protection firearms, communications, surveillance equipment and vehicles
• English is required
