Job Description
The Chief Security Officer will direct security management for the United Nations Support Office in Haiti, enabling safe mission delivery while protecting personnel, dependents, facilities and operations. The role leads the Security Section, advises mission leadership, integrates risk management into planning, coordinates crisis preparedness and response, and builds effective security partnerships with UN, national and international counterparts.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Direct security management functions for UNSOH and enable safe mission delivery
- Advise mission leadership on safety, security, crisis readiness and risk mitigation
- Lead Security Section staffing, performance management, training and budget planning
- Integrate security risk management into mission programmes, operations and planning
- Oversee threat analysis, early-warning systems, contingency plans and emergency-response mechanisms
- Coordinate physical-security assessments and security measures for premises and residences
- Maintain security coordination with UN entities, authorities, international organizations and national security agencies
Role Requirements
- Advanced university degree in political or social science, international relations, law enforcement, business management with a security-management focus or a related field
- First-level university degree with relevant academic qualifications and two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree
- Graduates of Police or Military War Colleges and Senior Staff Colleges may be considered
- At least ten years of relevant professional experience including five years in command or leadership with crisis-management experience
- At least five years in the United Nations security management system
- At least three years serving in a special political mission or peacekeeping mission
- English
Desired Criteria
- UN Department of Safety and Security certification in security, analysis, hostage-incident management or related fields
- Security-unit and staffing management in multicultural integrated missions
- Experience in conflict or post-conflict environments
- Security planning, physical-security assessment, emergency communications or hostage-incident management experience
