Job Description

Leads WASH and infection prevention preparedness for Ebola and other viral haemorrhagic fevers across Western Equatoria. The specialist strengthens facility and community systems, trains government and partner teams, coordinates readiness and supports rapid response in high-risk counties and border areas.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Lead WASH and IPC technical planning for Ebola preparedness and response across Western Equatoria
  • Strengthen IPC governance, environmental cleaning, healthcare-waste, water-quality and hand-hygiene systems in health facilities and infectious disease units
  • Train and mentor healthcare workers, government counterparts and implementing partners on IPC and emergency WASH
  • Coordinate preparedness with government authorities, WHO, UN agencies, health partners and humanitarian actors
  • Support readiness and rapid response in communities, points of entry and high-risk border locations
  • Monitor implementation against national plans, WHO guidance and UNICEF emergency approaches
  • Travel to high-risk counties and border areas to provide field technical support

Role Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in public health, environmental health, infection prevention and control, epidemiology, health sciences, WASH, public health engineering, environmental engineering or a closely related field
  • At least five years of professional experience in public health emergency preparedness and response, emergency WASH, IPC, outbreak response or health systems strengthening
  • Demonstrated experience supporting infectious-disease outbreak preparedness or response
  • Strong experience training and mentoring healthcare workers, government counterparts and implementing partners on IPC and emergency WASH
  • Experience coordinating with health ministries, WHO, UN agencies, NGOs and emergency response partners
  • Fluency in English

Desired Criteria

  • Academic or on-the-job training in public health emergency preparedness, health-facility WASH, outbreak prevention and infectious-disease management
  • Experience in South Sudan or a comparable setting
  • Country-level experience in development, fragile or humanitarian contexts
