Surveillance OfficerNew

WHO seeks a locally recruited Surveillance Officer in Bissau for a three-month mpox-response assignment. The officer will strengthen vaccination-preventable disease surveillance, support case finding and reporting, train health workers, analyse surveillance data, monitor vaccine stocks and cold chain, coordinate with authorities and partners, and report on outbreak preparedness and response.

• Strengthen surveillance for vaccine-preventable diseases including acute flaccid paralysis, measles, rubella and neonatal tetanus
• Support sentinel-site prioritisation and active case finding using online ODK or Kobo Collect checklists
• Train and refresh regional and facility surveillance focal points
• Support mpox case identification, reporting, contact tracing and sample collection and referral
• Collect, validate and analyse epidemiological data for decisions and intervention strategies
• Monitor surveillance performance indicators and prepare technical progress reports
• Adapt immunisation microplans and outbreak-response plans with health authorities
• Monitor vaccine stocks and cold-chain temperature control
• Support vaccine and data-collection-material distribution

• Bachelor's degree in health sciences, public health, medicine, nursing, environmental health or a field related to emergency and disaster management
• At least one year of relevant experience in epidemiological surveillance of notifiable diseases or vaccination services
• Excellent command of Portuguese
• Eligibility to work in the local duty-station area

• Training in epidemiological surveillance or vaccination
• Field experience in case-based surveillance, outbreak response or vaccination campaigns
• Experience responding to polio, measles, yellow fever or other public-health emergencies
• Knowledge of French or English
• Knowledge of ODK-based data-collection platforms
