Job Description

Provide legal and technical support to the Special Criminal Court's Special Indictment Chamber in reviewing appeals, analysing complex legal questions and preparing judicial decisions. The specialist will also mentor and train national magistrates and staff, strengthen knowledge-sharing systems, and help embed international-criminal-law expertise and durable judicial capacity in the Central African Republic.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Research and analyse Central African, international criminal, humanitarian and human-rights law
  • Prepare legal notes, memoranda and analyses for judges' deliberations
  • Develop and disseminate jurisprudence collections and technical reference tools
  • Advise the Chamber President and judges on substantive and procedural issues
  • Support examination of appeals, motions and complex legal questions
  • Help prepare hearings and draft decisions, orders and judgments
  • Design mentoring, coaching and training for national magistrates and staff
  • Support institutional knowledge transfer and the sustainability of the Court's legal capacity

Role Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in law, criminology or related legal social sciences, or equivalent professional legal training and experience
  • At least 5 years of professional experience with a master's degree or 7 years with a bachelor's degree
  • Strong knowledge of civil-law systems and criminal procedure
  • In-depth knowledge of international criminal, humanitarian and human-rights law
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Internet tools
  • Fluency in spoken and written French

  • Experience identifying best practices and lessons learned

  • Experience with international or hybrid tribunals
  • Experience in multicultural, peacekeeping or post-conflict environments
